Exercise Your Heart
December 8th, 2011
- Exercise 30-45 minutes at a time, 5 or 6 times per week
- Aerobic exercise is best for the heart. It can lower your cholesterol, blood pressure, and increase the blood supply to your heart
- You can add a bit of weight lifting later if you like, but start with walking, jogging, swimming, biking, elliptical trainer or other aerobic exercise
- The type of exercise that is best for you is the one that you enjoy the most
- Visualize the effect that exercise is having on your heart. It will make your arteries healthier and your heart stronger.
- Create a fun environment around your exercise
- Do not plan on always exercising outside. To be a successful exerciser, you will need an inside and an outside activity. If it is freezing outside or if the temperature is very hot, it is not ideal for your heart.
- Indoor choices include the option of joining a gym, purchasing a piece of equipment for your home, or going to the mall to walk (especially before it opens early for mall walkers.
- Exercise with a friend; you can motivate each other.
- Make up little “tricks” to get motivated. Plan to just exercise for 5 or 10 minutes if you are having a bad day. Usually getting started is the hardest part. Hopefully you will be motivated to continue.
- Plan ahead. If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.
