About Change of Heart

Change of Heart is a 10-week lifestyle modification program that blends the best of mainstream medicine with the latest alternative treatments to help people improve their cardiovascular health. Change of Heart takes a holistic approach to cardiac wellness, including a modified Mediterranean diet, a regular exercise regimen, a variety of stress management techniques and alternative treatment therapies.

Couple excersisingUnder the supervision of Change of Heart founder Dr. David Becker and Dr. Ram Gordon, Change of Heart teaches innovative techniques to help patients control their cardiac destiny and reduce the effects of coronary artery disease. Patients who have completed the program and made the necessary lifestyle changes have been able to achieve substantial improvement to their overall cardiac health. Some of the improvements have included:

  • Reduced medications
  • Lowered cholesterol and blood pressure
  • Losing weight
  • Avoiding surgery and invasive procedures

Who is Eligible to Join?

A wide range of candidates are eligible for Change of Heart, including people who:

  • Have had heart attacks
  • Have been recommended by their physicians for coronary artery bypass surgery or balloon angioplasty and do not wish to have those procedures
  • Have a family medical history of heart disease
  • Suffer the effects of heart disease, including high blood pressure, elevated cholesterol levels or other risk factors

What You Will Learn

The 10-Week Course Includes:

  • Weekly discussions with program founder Dr. David Becker and his colleague, Dr. Ram Gordon, cardiologists with Chestnut Hill Cardiology in suburban Philadelphia. They will discuss the impact your lifestyle has on your heart's health and the role medications, supplements and various cardiac procedures play in your health and well-being.
  • In-depth instruction from registered dietician Patti Morris. Patti will teach you how to achieve a heart-healthy diet through sensible nutrition and eating habits. You will learn how to select and prepare foods that are high-fiber, low-cholesterol and low-fat. You will receive invaluable education on healthy recipes, restaurant and grocery shopping tips and learn ways to interpret food labels.
  • Meetings with Jackie Yorko, Change of Heart's exercise physiologist. Jackie will motivate you and teach you what physical activity your body requires to enhance your cardiovascular system and overall health. She will also help you design your own personal fitness plan based upon your individual needs and ability to perform various physical exercises.
  • Training in powerful stress reduction methods, which have been shown to effectively treat and prevent heart disease. Each week, a visiting guest lecturer will share their unique expertise, such as stress management, yoga, tai chi and meditation. In this segment, you will learn to identify stress triggers in your life and how to adopt appropriate, heart-healthy response mechanisms.
